Learning to deal with set backs is not easy. It isn’t fun either…but, it is a part of life. And, how you deal with those set backs will change your perspective as well as trajectory.

The other day, I went looking for something on one of my flash drives. And, lo and behold, I couldn’t find the folder, instead I found a UNIX Executable file…scratching my head, I kept looking around my drive and had no idea what to do next. So, I sent an SOS to a couple of people that I trust implicitly and are experts – after a day, my worst fear was confirmed. GONE.

What do I do now?

Here is what happened next – I cried. I blamed my stupidity and lack of attention to preserving something so important. I didn’t back up my back up. I took responsibility…

…and then I asked Siri to play some dance music – you know what song she put on? ‘Save your tears’ by The Weeknd & Ariana Grande and I danced it out. The song was a sign…I danced and then I wrote down what I was going to do in the morning and went to sleep.

In the morning, I did what I needed to do and here I am. Without the files that I needed but the belief in myself. I created it once before and I will create something even better now.

☝🏼Do what you need to release the aggravation or stress of the situation – dance it out, go for a walk, cry, tell someone
✌🏼Think about next steps logically – write it down, be objective, focus on what you can do or what you do have and then create a plan to overcome

Life is going to give us lemons – whether is it bad news, an illness, a new boss or losing something. It’s how we deal with those lemons that makes us resilient and stronger.

Resilience doesn’t mean being positive all the time, it simply means you have the tools to overcome and move forward.
